SCS SB 546 -- LANDFILL FEES

SPONSOR:  Caskey (Pearce)

COMMITTEE ACTION:  Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on
Local Government by a vote of 13 to 0.

This substitute authorizes Johnson County to impose a landfill
fee not to exceed $1.50 per ton of solid waste to be used by the
county's industrial development authority.  Voter approval is
required.

FISCAL NOTE:  No impact on state funds.

PROPONENTS:  Supporters say that the county spent over $2 million
on roads for the landfill.  The substitute will allow the county
to maintain those roads.

Testifying for the bill was Senator Caskey.

OPPONENTS:  There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
